Guitar Quest — Privacy Policy

Guitar Quest ("the app", "we", "us") is a learn-guitar app for iPhone and iPad, developed by Daniel Forino. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. We designed Guitar Quest to collect as little personal data as possible.

1. What we collect

• Account information (only if you create an account): your email address and a display name. Your password is stored only in a securely hashed form — we never store or see your plain-text password. An account is optional; you can use the app's core features without one.
• Learning progress (only if you are signed in): your gameplay progress — levels, XP, streaks, achievements, and which songs and lessons you have completed — so it can sync across your devices.
• Optional anonymous usage events: if enabled, the app may send aggregated, non-personal usage events (for example, "a lesson was completed") to help us improve the app. These contain no name, email, or device identifier.

2. What we do NOT collect

• We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use advertising identifiers. (Our App Privacy declaration lists tracking as disabled.)
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing.
• We do not collect your location, contacts, or photos.

3. Microphone

If you grant microphone permission, the app can listen to your guitar to give you playing feedback. This audio is processed entirely on your device in real time. It is never recorded, stored, or transmitted off your device. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings, and the rest of the app still works.

4. Payments and subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We receive only your subscription status (active or not) from Apple — we never receive or store your payment card details. Apple's handling of your payment information is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

5. How your data is used

Account email and display name are used solely to authenticate you and to sync your learning progress between your devices. They are never used for tracking or advertising.

6. Where your data is stored

Account and progress data are stored using Cloudflare's key-value storage, accessed through our backend at guitarquest.betweenthekeys.com. Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

7. Data retention and deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account). Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your account record and all synced learning progress from our storage. You may also request deletion by emailing us (see below).

8. Children

Guitar Quest is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
